We are delighted to announce that we have appointed Jonny Whitehead as the new Chief Executive of Herts Young Homeless. Jonny will succeed Helen Elliott, who will be retiring in December.

Jonny is currently Operations Director of Girlguiding UK, where he is responsible for the delivery of Girlguiding activities to 300,000 girls and young women across the UK. Previous posts include Director of an anti-child trafficking non-governmental organisation in Ghana and ten years with Age UK where he supported local Age UK charities to develop and grow their services. He lives in Hatfield and is a trustee of a Welwyn Hatfield advice charity.

Chair of trustees, Peter Holland said 'We are excited that Jonny will be joining hyh at this crucial time for the charity, as we look to develop our new strategic direction for the next three years. Jonny brings with him a wealth of experience in leading staff and volunteers, building and strengthening partnerships, operations and governance'.

Jonny Whitehead said 'I want to see a world in which all young people have a home but sadly homelessness is on the increase. Hyh is an excellent charity with a track record of success so I am really excited to join such a great team. hyh's services are needed now more than ever and I can’t wait to start working with the board, colleagues and partners to improve the lives of young people and to prevent youth homelessness. I would like to thank the board for appointing me as Chief Executive and look forward to meeting the team.’

Jonny will take up the post in January 2022, and will spend some time before then meeting Helen and the hyh team, to ensure a smooth transition.
