hyh beat off some stiff competition to win the Charity Category at the inaugural Heart Radio Hertfordshire Hero Awards.
The swanky event was held at The Grove Hotel, Watford to celebrate some of the county’s unsung heroes.
It was a double celebration for hyh as Ricky Jennings of iPro, our involvement project for current and former service users, was a finalist in the Big Heart Category.
Ricky volunteers as a Peer Educator and is an integral part of the hyh Education Team, talking to young people about his experience of homelessness and how to get help.
“Herts Young Homeless was privileged to be part of the very first Heart Hertfordshire Hero Awards,” said chief executive Helen Elliott. “It was an emotional and uplifting evening which celebrated the very best of Hertfordshire, its people and communities.
“Winning the Charity Award gave us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the vital work hyh’s dedicated team puts in to improve the lives of vulnerable young people across Hertfordshire while also raising awareness of our continuing work and upcoming fundraising events such as our sponsored sleepout.
“We were genuinely surprised to have been recognised as we were up against several fantastic organisations,” added Helen.
“It was also wonderful that one of our former service users, Ricky, received some well-deserved recognition as a finalist in the Big Heart Award for the many hours he selflessly devotes to hyh as a volunteer, educating young people about the realities of homelessness.”
