Herts Young Homeless launched their charity partnership with The Galleria in Hatfield with an event to highlight the growing problem of ‘sofa surfing’ where people temporarily stay with friends, other family members or even strangers in order to stay off the streets.
“We’re delighted to be supported by The Galleria. The launch event gave us a fantastic opportunity to highlight the problems faced by vulnerable young people in Hertfordshire,” said hyh’s Head of Fundraising Kathryn Salmon.
“Thank you to the staff at The Galleria who worked so hard to make sure the launch was a success, the stores that donated prizes and to everyone who came along to support the event.”
hyh created a mock room, complete with camp bed and sleeping bag, there was also a scavenger hunt to raise awareness of items a homeless person may need and a tombola.
The Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Lynne Sparks popped along to say ‘hello’. Lynne is busy setting up a much-needed winter night shelter for those sleeping rough locally (www.hatfieldnightshelter.co.uk), an initiative hyh is pleased to support.
