There’s just one week to go until #GivingTuesday and Herts Young Homeless would love you to join us in this year’s global campaign to ‘Do good stuff’.
Next week, hardy hyh staff and supporters will be braving the cold in a Sponsored Sleepout to raise money but if that’s not your kind of kind of night out, then this #GivingTuesday why not make a donation to stay in?
We’re asking people to donate a tenner to sleep in the warmth and comfort of their own beds, safe in the knowledge that they are still helping vulnerable young people in the local community.
People like Katie who found our emergency accommodation ‘Crashpad’ service provided the space she needed to rebuild her relationship with her Mum.
Katie, who has moderate learning difficulties, was asked to leave the family home by her Mum when their relationship broke down due to repeated arguments about the way the teenager was spending her money.
A Crashpad placement in a volunteer host’s home was found in Katie’s home town.
While in Crashpad, Katie continued her part-time job and also enrolled on a skills course to help her with English, Maths and other functional skills.
Over a two-week period Katie’s relationship with her Mum began to improve.
Sessions with the hyh Mediation Team were arranged and these helped Mum and Katie to talk through their differences.
When Katie left Crashpad and returned home, the family found communication was easier and they were arguing less.
Six months on, Katie is still in the family home.
