Herts Young Homeless launched their charity partnership with The Galleria in Hatfield with an event to highlight the growing problem of ‘sofa surfing’ where people temporarily stay with friends, other family members or even strangers in order to stay off the streets.
Keen quizzers were put to the test raising thousands of pounds for Herts Young Homeless (hyh) at the RO Group’s (www.rogroup.co.uk) successful annual charity quiz night.
The event, organised by the family entrepreneurial trading group based in Potters Bar and held at the Wyllyotts Theatre, raised a record-breaking £9,500 for hyh.
To celebrate National Volunteers Week (June 1 to 7) we’re looking at the ways hyh’s wonderful volunteers help make a difference in their community.
And if you’d like to join them, we have plenty of opportunities available whether you’re looking to make a regular commitment or want something a bit more ad hoc.
Check out www.hyh.org.uk/volunteer for details.
Katie is one of our selfless volunteers who gives her time to help Herts Young Homeless support vulnerable, young people.
As part of hyh’s Mediation team, Katie works with young people and their families to help resolve conflict, and enable better relationships and positive communication, all of which assists in preventing homelessness.
